No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. —- Steve Jobs at the 2005 Stanford Commencement

graveDocs: The Murder of Fred Hampton”The Murder of Fred Hampton began as a film portrait of Hampton and the Illinois Black Panther Party, but half way through the shoot, Hampton was murdered by Chicago policeman.
In an infamous moment in Chicago history and politics, over a dozen policeman burst into Hampton’s apartment while its occupants were sleeping, killing Hampton and fellow Panther Mark Clark and brutalizing the other occupants.
Filmmakers Mike Gray and Howard Alk arrived a few hours later to shoot film footage of the crime scene that was later used to contradict news reports and police testimony.
“You can jail the revolutionary, but you can’t jail the revolution…You might murder a freedom fighter like Bobby Hunton, but you can’t murder freedom fighting.” – Fred Hampton.
Recently restored and reworked by Gray, The Murder of Fred Hampton is a chilling slice of American history.” watch here

Yasiin Bey – Sunshine Screwface (Produced by J Dilla)

Yasiin Bey recently touched down in Paris to promote his upcoming show with Talib Kweli at La Bataclan on March 9. As previously reported, the acclaimed rapper paid a a visit to Nova radio during his stay in the French capital and laced the airwaves with some impressive wordplay while clutching his patented red Unidyne microphone in doing so. It also should be noted the beat belongs to the late great J-Dilla, peep above and see how it stacks up to his recent live versions of this record.

Yasiin Bey – Ni**as In Poorest (In Paris)

While the music world is debating on whether Yasiin Bey is firing shots at the Throne or not with his interpretation of “Ni**as in Paris,” the Brooklynite found himself somewhat ironically in the French capital where he performed for the Friday’s show at the Le Bataclan along with his partner in rhyme Talib Kweli. In addition, he stopped at Radio Nova and offered a live version of his “controversial” record.

The artist formerly known as Mos Def drops the visual interpretation of his rendition of The Throne’s ubiquitous song. Honoring Malcom X’s 42nd death-day, Yasiin’s version conveys quite a different message. It also serves as the first video from his Top 40 Underground series. The thought-provoking visual was helmed by Yasiin himself and Set Free whereas editing credits come courtesy of Andre Cole.
